Home for tea

from Self Assembly by Jim Pearson

/

lyrics

He took her to a place where he’d
Be guaranteed some privacy
Alone with his new secretary

A lager top, a g n’ t
A hemline cut above the knee
“Love I’m working late again I won’t be home for tea”

He wished he didn’t have to lie
But now he has an alibi

He hasn’t heard a word she said
Undressing her inside his head
His conscience hanging by a thread

When she crossed her legs it crossed his mind
He’s not too old to read the signs
If only he were in his prime

Middle age and pheromone
Tired, guilty and alone

There’s a message on his mobile phone
“Darling when will you be home
I’ve cooked your tea and kept it warm”

So he left the girl sat at the bar
Low cut top and push up bra
And drove home in the family car

He’s glad he made it home for tea
There’s nowhere he would rather be

Jim Pearson UK

"You never can be sure what kind of project Jim will come up with next, but you can always be sure it's gonna be pretty darn good." Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music.

Jim's songs range from the whimsical to some of the most bitter and somber themes, yet always with a paradoxical childlike spirit that meets them head-on – wide-eyed and full of hopeful energy.
